MISSION STATEMENT

Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund
is a community-supported organization dedicated
to raising and disbursing funds for uncovered medically related expenses
to people on South Whidbey who are unable to pay these costs themselves.


HISTORY

Friends of Friends has been helping people on South Whidbey Island since 1997. This grass-roots organization started with a personal letter to 75 friends of founder, Lynn Willeford, asking each for a $100 donation--$7,500 and 11 grateful recipients later, Friends of Friends was on its way. By its sixth year, the organization raised enough money to help 168 people, paying about $50,000 worth of bills for doctors, dentists, hospitals, medications, and medical transport. In its first 10 years, the organization helped about one thousand people providing a little less than $400,000 in medical expenses.

The all-volunteer organization incorporated as a non-profit in 2000. And in 2006, due to an increase in calls for help, Friends of Friends hired its first paid Service Coordinator to ensure our continued availability, prompt response, and personal attention as we face the growing needs in our community. To date, we have raised over a million dollars through the generosity and support of the local community—all to help our friends and neighbors!


Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit
organization registered with the State of Washington.
