You could be the next Mr. South Whidbey and wear the crown!

On behalf of Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund, thank you for considering a role in our competition. Great news! We are pleased to be returning to Freeland Hall to host a socially responsible, in person Mr. South Whidbey Pageant! This year, not only are we providing a much needed night on the town, but we will also be broadcasting the entire event on our new website! You could be part of the most viewed Mr. South Whidbey Pageant ever!

We are so proud of this event and are thrilled that it creates funds which allow us to help so many South Whidbey residents cover medical expenses. The Pageant, on Saturday October 2nd 2021, is still months away, but we like to select our contestants early. Below is pertinent info for potential candidates.

1. There are three categories in our Pageant:

* Fashion: Come up with an eye-catching outfit of your choosing for your entrance and complement it with your theme song. Keep in mind we will have large online audience this year so pick something that will film well.

* Q&A: You'll respond to carefully selected ‘pageant’ questions, in the style of a game show.

* Talent: Whatever you want to do, with whatever you have. You’ll have 3–5 minutes in the spotlight.       Feel free to have back-up dancers, singers, musicians, etc. on stage with you. The more the merrier!

2. Please plan to be available most of the day of the pageant, Saturday, Oct 2.

The event is at Freeland Hall and there will be a ‘tech’ rehearsal at 1:00 at which we will walk through the event so we can test the sound cues, lights, etc. You won’t be in costume or actually performing. Your talent remains a secret! You will also need to arrive at the venue early, by 6:00; doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7 p.m.

3. We will set up a “Campaign Headquarters” on our website linking to candidates Instagram and Facebook pages.

Having social media or a campaign manager to help you is a great idea, but don’t worry if this isn’t your thing. Our technology committee will work with candidates to reach voters digitally. We will have some “old school” website options to help you with your campaign.

4. Our emcee for the event, Sue Frause, will contact each of you to set up individual ‘interviews’ over the summer.

Among other things, she will need some idea of the talent you are planning, but she will go over all that when you talk.

5. There will be one evening meeting where you will get an idea of what to expect at the event.

The exact date is still tentative, but it will probably be the first week of September. The event will be at Bayview Corner, Sue will attend, as well as the FoF Fundraising committee. Following the meeting, we will have a Meet the Candidates Night at the Taproom. It's a chance for contestants to tell the fans why you're running for Mr. SW.

6. We are still waiting to hear, but we hope the Island County Parade will take place Saturday, July 17th at 10:00 in Langley.

Our board and Mr. South Whidbey candidates team up to smile, wave and take part in this local favorite event. The reining Mr. SW will also ride with us.

7. There are a few other details such as selecting your music and getting your picture taken, but that's the life of soon-to-be pageant Kings.

If your pulse is quickening and you think this event sounds like the best night of your life, then you should toss your hat in the ring for the Mr. South Whidbey Pageant!
